TD001 Mendelayev “Mendelayev EP”
Utkiyy
Iron Ocean
Shapito
Stupid Neighbours
Transmute Digital are pleased to introduce the unmistakeable talent of none other than Russia’s Mendelayev for our first digital release. The Mental Muscovite Percussion fetishist has been releasing a steady torrent of tuneage since his early IDM-tinged experimental releases on Art-tek Recordings in 2003, and has since gone on to release music on Syncopathic and several other respected labels; we are incredibly excited to be able to pass him the reins and let him take our new digital label off the mark with a diverse four tracker of forward-thinking sonic experimentalism!

Kicking off the EP, Utkiyy delivers an essay in coupling the intensity of
lunatic breakwork to gentler atmospheric textures as barrages of
militant Stanley-knife snares collapse into deep melodic bliss before
slashing the canvas and re-asserting themselves.
Iron Ocean, perhaps the most accessible of the four tunes on offer,
delivers some coldly evolving atmospherics coupled with a nice line in
grimy bass tones, some engagingly bonkers percussion and the
occasional Speak & Spell sample adding up to a tune that should
surely find favour with anyone who’s sick and tired of the same old
same old bobbins that so many are content to produce, play and release
in 2008.
Shapito continues the cold atmospheric theme but adds a more
frenetic energy with razor sharp edits and a barrage of interestingly
pitch shifted breaks.
Stupid Neighbours turns up the heat with a
succession of pummelling snares before a protracted bass heavy
breakdown ushers in a quirky slice of industrial jump-up madness. All four of these cuts will cause scenes of devastation not witnessed since the last
days of the Roman Empire when dropped at the right time in front of
the right crowd.
